First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Follow up from Grant TPS, Wikimedia CH alternatives[edit]

Hello Alexey M., the WMF forwarded us the link to your TPS Grant request to see if Wikimedia CH could be of any assistance in helping you carry your projects. Apparently, the request in question does not fit the criteria for TPS funding, and may not be a good fit for Project and Event grants either so we are looking for local alternatives to help. I took some time to look at your pictures which are great. Locally, we have the micro-grant application which could help to sponsor your AG, there is a maximum cap at 500 CHF. Here is the link if you wish to take a look. Otherwise, I could suggest the WMCH covers your expenses on a per trip basis. When you organize expeditions and purchase tickets for your transport, we could reimburse you the travel expenses upon completion of the project. Wiki Science Competition 2021 in Switzerland[edit]

Dear uploader of Wiki Loves Earth in Switzerland and Wiki Loves Monuments in Switzerland, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now open in your country until December, 15th.

If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. There are different categories that can be used (you might therefore have something already interesting in your archive). Prizes can be allocated for the 1st and 2nd positions in every category.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface by simply adding the national category.

If you take part, please consider improving the description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2022.

Guten Tag Alexey M., ich habe eine kurze Frage an Dich: Was ist mit ausleuchtung.ch passiert? Es ist nicht mehr aufrufbar. Ausleuchtung ist für mich ein sehr wichtiges Tool, mit dem ich schon lange Zeit viel gearbeitet habe. Es ist sowohl für meine Arbeit als Fotograf und Autor wichtig, aber auch für die Planung und Auswertung von Events in meiner Funktion als Community-Manager der Wikimedia CH. Du gibst auf Deiner Benutzerseite mit DE-3 an, dass Du der deutschen Sprache mächtig bist. Gern kannst Du auch auf Englisch antworten. Vielen Dank bereits im Voraus. Bonjour. Je viens d'enrichir l'article en objet et j'ai notamment mis une légende à votre photographie qui figure dans l'infobox, mais je ne suis par sûr que ce soit correct. Vous rappelez-vous de l'endroit ou vous avez réalisé ce cliché : passage souterrain de la rue du rempart qui chemine à l'intérieur de l'ouvrage ?, vue de l'entrée depuis la cour intérieure (comme je l'ai supposé) ? ou autre ?.
